Another One Bites the Dust: Colin Trevorrow Axed From Star Wars: Episode IX
The curse of creative differences strikes again!

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the galaxy far, far away…
Lucasfilm has confirmed the news that Colin Trevorrow, director of the hugely successful Jurassic World has been removed from his directorial duties on the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX. A Lucasfilm statement has confirmed that the director has been excused from the project because of creative differences involving story direction.
The exciting sequel to this year’s highly anticipated Star Wars spectacular, The Last Jedi is scheduled to begin principle photography in January 2018, but now finds itself without a director.
This is the second Star Wars project to be hit by the curse of creative differences in as many months following the debacle of Han Solo: A Star Wars Story dismissing directors Lord and Miller on the eve of completion. Legendary filmmaker Ron Howard has since stepped in to steer the project back on course and excitement is building within the fanbase, but the notion of yet another director being removed of his duties in such a short space of time is alarming.
The official Lucasfilm statement is as follows:
Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.
The search now begins for a new director, one capable of bringing the conclusion to the sequel saga to the screen in time for its scheduled release on May 24th, 2019. Several names have been mooted within the fanbase with screen legends like Steven Spielberg, David Lynch and Ron Howard among them, but its Rian Johnson, director of The Last Jedi who seems to the popular choice.
The ball is back in Lucasfilm’s court…let the mayhem begin!
