This week at a glance…

It has been a colossal week in the Star Wars universe, one that will be long remembered amongst the fans of the greatest space saga of all time. With the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story we have been treated to a rollercoaster ride of nostalgia that has sent a majority of the fan base into a delirium. Jyn Erso and her team of warriors graced the silver screen and spoiled us with a movie worthy of the ages and revealed the tragic struggle behind the theft of the original Death Star plans. With a multitude of fantastic new characters to embrace, it was hard not to get carried away in the tidal wave of momentum and the team put up as little resistance as possible.

And so, with Rogue One taking centre stage…into the weekly review we go.

Paladone:

Future of the Force News Editor Phil Roberts got the week under way with his comprehensive look at the fantastic Star Wars heat changing mugs from Paladone. The gift manufacturer was gracious enough to share some of their sublime products with us, including their new Rogue One range and Phil put them through their paces to give you the inside track. Check out his findings here:

Rogue One Special Screenings:

Tuesday saw the introduction of the “secret” screening of the new Star Wars Anthology movie, Rogue One. Despite the movie being the most eagerly anticipated event of the year, Lucasfilm and Disney took the unprecedented step to forego the traditional premiere event and reveal the movie to limited selection of venues for both charity and competition winners. Future of the Force mainstays Phil Roberts and Roy Baker pitched their tents at the threshold of both the BFI IMAX in London, as well as the star’s hotel of choice, the Corinthia determined to bring our readers the inside scoop.

Smyths Toys:

Star Wars bargains galore were found at Smyths Toys this week. The UK retailer slashed their prices for the Star Wars The Force Awakens 3.75” action figure range that saw characters like Nien Nunb, Kylo Ren (Unmasked) and the First Order Stormtrooper Squad Leader reduced to just £2 each.

Rogue One Release:

Thursday saw the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to public audiences across the country and the team flocked to their respective cinemas at midnight to catch the very first screening. Jyn Erso and her band of Rebel warriors headed to Scarif to confront Darth Vader and the forces of the Empire in the most fantastical of nostalgic fashions, which was enough to revert every fan to their childhood. With the absolute brilliance of the movie still fresh in their minds, both Phil Roberts and Roy Baker were taken aback at the finale of their IMAX screening when they were presented with three complimentary IMAX posters by the staff of the sublime Showcase Cinema in Bluewater. The amazing one-sheet prints were a delight to behold and Roy took the liberty of reviewing them for our readers. Check it out here:

Disney Store:

To coincide with the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the Disney Store unveiled their latest line of exclusive Elite Series figures which gave us deluxe version of Jyn Erso, Director Krennic and the Death Trooper, as well as a new vintage Stormtrooper die cast rendering for our consideration. Check out the range here:

Rogue One Soundtrack:

Friday saw the release of Michael Giacchino’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story score soundtrack which had been both composed and conducted in the most challenging of conditions. With Oscar winning composer, Alexandre Desplat being relieved of his duties the burden fell upon Giacchino’s shoulders to produce a soundtrack in the shortest of time frames. And yet, within minutes of the movies opening sequences, the majority of the fan base were appeased with his sublime efforts that heralded the return of many of John Williams’ famous themes.

And finally…

With Rogue One finally being unleashed upon the world, our very own Radio Ryloth examined the intricacies of the female balance within the movie itself and dared to expose the distinct lack of female characters in such a culturally diverse motion picture event. Check out her findings here:

It was another fantastic week for the Future of the Force team, from collectables to Rebels and the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the team are covering every angle unearthed within the Star Wars universe. Only the force knows what lies ahead of us in the coming weeks but rest assured, the Future of the Force team will be on the front lines bringing you the best Star Wars content from across the Outer Rim territories and beyond…

Until then…have a fantastic Christmas and as always…
